OUR TOWN
By James K Baxter
The town was usual enough; it had
A creek, a bridge, a beach a sky
Over it, and even a small tin church
I never went to. My brother, my cousins and I
Did what boys do- dozed in the hot
Schoolroom, made bows and arrows, dodged the mad
Boat builder, crept like rabbits through the black
Under-runners with a weak torch,
Burnt dry rushes, wrestled or swam
Doing nothing important.

Activity - our town
As we learn it is really important we look to artists, writers, musicians ect as inspiration to form our own working style. Sometimes to do this we need to integrate other peoples ideas and structures along with our own. To truly understand an artist/ writer we need to write like they do.
Write your own poem about a place you like to visit......
it could be your school, a mall, the bush, a beach, a tree hut, your bedroom, a dairy, skate park, net ball courts, rugby field, church............
there is some criteria which you need to include based on James K. Baxter
Success Criteria:
1. Keep the same first line however change the word "town" to the place you have chosen
2.. Nouns of things within your space
3. Include people which relate to your space in your life
4. Use verbs to describe actions and movement to do with your space
5. Use adjectives to describe aspects and elements of your space
6. End with the same line "Doing nothing important"

The mall was usual enough: There were toy shops, the warehouse, the chemist and the yummy pie shop.My best friend and I did what boys do: Buy some lollies, get some dvds and have a kai at the food court. The laughing, the yelling, the crying. d
